Move a filing to a newer taxonomy year

A taxonomy year can become unavailable for EDGAR filings. You can then move the filing to a newer year.

The move is available for SEC filings that use US GAAP. For other filings, the command shows the reason it is not available. You need permission to edit content.

1. See that the year is retired

When EDGAR no longer accepts the taxonomy year of a filing, the editor shows a banner. Check filing also names the year above its findings.

Click the Review move to button. The button names the newer year.

2. Open the move yourself

You can also start the move without the banner.

  1. Open the XBRL tab.
  2. In the Taxonomy group, click Move taxonomy year.

3. Review the preview

The dialog lists the concepts that you use and that the new year deprecates. It shows the counts of facts, sections and deprecated concepts. Nothing changes until you confirm.

The replacements come from the deprecation linkbase of the new year. If the linkbase names more than one replacement, choose one. If a concept has no replacement, do one of these:

  • Search for a concept to use.
  • Click Remove these tags.

To see the facts first, click Show in document. The move cannot run until you resolve every concept.

4. Confirm the move

  1. Tick I reviewed the replacements.
  2. Enter the next version number.
  3. Click Move and build version.

The move clears undo. BriskTag builds a new version on the new year. If a version is already building, BriskTag asks if you want to stop it first.

5. Restore an older version

Earlier versions stay as they were. To go back:

  1. On the Review tab, open Document versions.
  2. Click Restore on a version.

Restoring a version brings back its taxonomy year.
